The Importance of Proper Diet & Nutrition

Did you know that the seed mixes they sell at the pet store for your parrot NOT what they should be eating? Your parrot will have heart and liver problems about halfway through their lives if eating solely an all-seed diet. They will have dull feathers, a flakey beak, and an overall low quality of health.

A wild parrot's diet is widely varied. And although we cannot provide them with the exact diet they'd have in their native countries, we can mimic it well.

There are many ways to offer your parrot a variety of vitamins and minerals. The most important, and probably easiest, way is through raw, whole foods. Get that raw fruits and veggies party started! Try offering them in interesting ways if your parrot isn't enticed to eat healthy. We know some parrots who won't eat their veggies unless they're hanging from a skewer!

Sprouts and grains. Mung bean sprouts, hemp hearts, sprout mixes (that you sprout yourself), microgreens, barley, flax seed, and so much more! Did you know there are teas, flower blends, and other amazing additions you can offer your parrot, too?

When it comes to a pellet diet, it is important you look closely at the ingredients in the pellets. Avoid sugars, syrups, and dyes. Pellets should not be the only thing your parrot eats. If they are stubborn, there are many supplements out there you can add to their food, but don't give up on expanding your parrot's palates!

There are a lot of great companies who make these options readily available and easy to offer our parrots. Keep in mind, not every species of exotic parrot/bird requires the same diet. Please make sure to cater to your species' needs.
