Volunteer Position | On-Site

We are looking for a very special volunteer to be an adoption superstar! Successful adoptions are what drive us – placing birds into the best homes possible is extremely important to our team and our mission. If you want a fun, fast-paced environment and love getting to know people (and parrots...), you’d be a perfect fit for this role!

Major duties of this position include leading bonding and meet and greet visits with potential adopters, performing home visits, leading rescue tours, ensuring the smooth transition of the adoption process, handling adoption communications, and submitting applicant folders to the Board for final approval.

Preferred requirements:

  • Must be 21+ years old

  • Prior experience handling adoptions in a shelter setting preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Comfortable with speaking publicly

  • Have access to a car and/or driver with a valid driver’s license

  • Detail-oriented

  • Comfortable with bird handling and training and/or willing to be trained

  • Must be available for on-site adoption appointments at least two days per week

About Rhode Island Parrot Rescue

Rhode Island Parrot Rescue is the only 501(c)3 nonprofit rescue in the state of Rhode Island to focus exclusively on rescuing, rehabilitating, and placing exotic birds into qualified homes for adoption. A small, independent rescue, RIPR houses an average of 60 parrots at any given time and adopts on average up to 85 per year into loving homes.
