  • We are closed to the general public and open by appointment only. This is to ensure the health and happiness of our flock and adopters by providing one-on-one time in a calm environment. To make an adoption appointment, please read our Adoption Process and fill out an application. A staff member will be in touch with you following submission.

    Special group tours may be arranged on a case-by-case basis. If interested in setting up a group tour, please send us an email at contactriparrotrescue@gmail.com.

  • Yes. You do not need to know which bird you’d like to take home when you fill out your adoption application. We will schedule an introduction walk-through with one of our adoption specialists, who will tell you about each bird and get to know you and your family a bit more to make the perfect match!

  • We require all household members to be aware and in agreement about adopting a bird from us. Birds are loud, messy, and require lots of attention! It’s important that everyone in the household is on board before making a commitment to adopt.

  • We do not exclude our adopters based on prior experience, but it’s important to know that some birds we house may not suitable for beginners. Our adoption specialists will work with you to determine your needs and considerations before the process begins!

  • Yes … and no. We do not exclude adopters based on whether or not they rent. However, some birds we house may not be suitable for renters, such as macaws and cockatoos. Our adoption specialists will work with you to determine your needs and considerations, but please keep in mind that due to noise levels, larger parrots are excluded from apartment-living adoption.

  • Yes. All adopters must complete the adoption course before we submit your folder to the Board for final approval. This ensures that all of our birds receive the continued care they need to thrive in their new home.

  • Not to worry! At RIPR, we welcome anyone who has time and skills to offer us as a volunteer. We are always looking for marketers, creatives, handiness, and others to fill roles besides bird care and enrichment.

    We also offer training to our volunteers when beginning work with us. Do not let your lack of bird-care experience dissuade you! You may be surprised at how much you love it following your training.

  • RIPR is primarily a volunteer-led nonprofit organization. However, a few positions are paid, though these may be few and far between. For special positions at RIPR, please keep an eye on our Positions page.

  • We list all of our current fees on our website HERE!

  • We are thankful to you for your donation! We accept many items such as cages, food, toys, and cleaning supplies. A full list of our most-needed items is listed on the Donations page of our website HERE.

  • All drop offs may be made non-contact at the side door of our facility, located at 2141 West Shore Road, Warwick, RI. Please contact us at contactriparrotrescue@gmail.comto let us know what day, time, and items you will be dropping off.

  • We have a separate process in place for relinquishments, and several things are required before we can take in your bird for rehoming. Please real all about our relinquishment process HERE.

  • RIPR does not accept wild birds at this time. We specialize in captive exotic birds only. Please bring any injured wildlife to a wildlife rehabilitator in your area.

  • We offer in-home and virtual parrot behavior consultations for a fee. Please send us an email at contactriparrotrescue@gmail.com for more information.

  • Yes! RIPR offers boarding services on-premises for a fee. More information can be found HERE.

  • RIPR only works with captive exotic birds. We do not accept reptiles, amphibians, dogs, cats, or aquatics.

  • We adopt in the New England area; primarily Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire. We DO NOT ship birds and all adopters must come to the shelter in-person for bonding visits prior to adoption approval. Certain species are limited to adopting in the state of Rhode Island only, as they require permits for ownership. These include Scarlet Macaws and Military Macaws.

  • Yes. All adopters must be willing to undergo a home visit with an adoption specialist prior to application approval. There is a$35 fee for travel outside of a 25-mile radius of our facility in Warwick, RI.

  • All other pets must be controllable and never left alone with a bird without supervision. During your home visit, an adoption specialist will observe your pet to make a determination if a bird will be the right fit. We DO NOT adopt to households with ferrets.
